How this rashi calculator works
Your janma rashi (moon sign) is the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at your birth — the sign a panchang or rashifal means when it says 'your rashi'. The calculator computes the Moon's sidereal longitude for your birth details (Lahiri ayanamsa) and divides by 30°: whichever of the twelve signs the Moon sits in is your rashi.
This is not the same as the 'star sign' from western magazines, which is the SUN's tropical sign by calendar date. The Moon changes sign every 2¼ days, so your rashi genuinely needs your birth date and (sometimes) time — and it is the rashi, not the sun sign, that classical rashifal, milan and muhurat all use.
