Find my muhurat dates →Panchang (पंचांग) literally means "five limbs" — panch (five) + ang (limbs). It is the Hindu almanac that maps the cosmic energy of a day through five elements: tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra (lunar mansion), yoga and karana. Together they tell you whether a day in Mumbai is auspicious for a particular task, and which hours to use or avoid.
Because sunrise and sunset shift with longitude and season, every timing on this page is computed from Mumbai's real coordinates — so the rahukaal and choghadiya you see are the city's own, not a generic Delhi value.
The lunar day — the Moon gaining 12° on the Sun. Thirty tithis make a lunar month, split into the waxing Shukla and waning Krishna paksha. Tithi anchors fasts and festivals.
The weekday, reckoned sunrise-to-sunrise (not midnight). Each vara has a ruling planet — Sunday/Sun, Monday/Moon, and so on — that shapes what the day suits.
The lunar mansion the Moon sits in, one of 27. It is the heart of the naming ceremony and of muhurat selection, and the basis of gun-milan matching.
The combined Sun+Moon longitude divided into 27 parts. Some yogas (Siddhi, Shubha, Amrita) are auspicious; a few (Vyatipata, Vaidhriti) call for caution.
Half a tithi — eleven karanas cycle through the month. Vishti (Bhadra) karana in particular is avoided for auspicious beginnings.
An auspicious vivah muhurat aligns tithi, nakshatra, vara and yoga so the couple begins married life in harmony with the cosmos. The panchang shortlists the days; a priest fixes the exact lagna.
Inaugurations, account-opening (bahi/chopda pujan) and signing major papers are timed to a clear tithi outside rahukaal, so the venture starts on rising energy.
The birth nakshatra and its pada decide the auspicious starting syllable for a baby's name — the panchang gives the nakshatra and the naming window.
Disha-shool (the inauspicious direction of the day) and rahukaal guide a safe, smooth journey; the Char choghadiya is the classic travel window.
Ekadashi, Pradosh, Sankashti and Amavasya fasts depend entirely on the tithi — the panchang tells you exactly when each begins and ends.
Even routine choices — a call, a purchase, a meeting — can be slotted into a Shubh, Labh or Amrit choghadiya for a calmer outcome.
Every value here is computed by the classical Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) sidereal method — the Indian-ephemeris standard — using a modern astronomical engine for planetary positions. Tithi and karana come from the exact Moon−Sun elongation; nakshatra from the sidereal Moon; the day-part windows (rahukaal, yamaganda, gulika, abhijit) from the day's real topocentric sunrise and sunset in Mumbai.
Panchang values can differ slightly between almanacs because of the ayanamsa and the sunrise convention used. We state our method (Lahiri sidereal, real sunrise) so the numbers are reproducible. For a binding muhurta, confirm with your family priest.
Today (Friday, 14 August 2026) the tithi is Shukla Dwitiya, in the Shukla paksha, and it runs until 18:47 (IST) when the next tithi begins. The tithi is the lunar day and changes through the day, so important beginnings are timed within an auspicious tithi and outside rahukaal.
Today's nakshatra is Purva Phalguni (pada 2), in effect until 03:42 (+1) (IST) — आज का नक्षत्र Purva Phalguni है। It is the lunar mansion the Moon occupies and is central to naming and muhurat decisions.
Rahu Kaal today is 11:07–12:43, computed from the real local sunrise and sunset. It is the inauspicious eighth of the day traditionally avoided for new beginnings; Yamaganda (15:54–17:30) and Gulika (07:55–09:31) are similar windows, while Abhijit muhurat (12:19–13:07) is the auspicious one.
Aaj ka panchang is the day's five limbs — tithi (Shukla Dwitiya), vara (Friday), nakshatra (Purva Phalguni), yoga (Shiva) and karana (Kaulava) — plus the day-part windows like rahukaal and abhijit. We compute it by the classical Lahiri (sidereal) method.
Today's Tarabalam is favourable for these janma nakshatras: Ashwini, Krittika, Rohini, Ardra, Pushya, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Shatabhisha, Uttara Bhadrapada. Chandrabalam is favourable for the rashis: Mithuna, Simha, Tula, Vrischika, Kumbha, Meena. If your birth star or moon sign is listed, the day's lunar energy supports you.
Next dates include Thu, 20 Aug, Fri, 4 Sept — verify with your priest for the exact lagna.
