A Jain marriage biodata follows the standard Indian structure — personal, professional, family and contact details — but adds community-specific layers. Sect affiliation, gotra, dietary practice and religious observance details are expected fields that rarely appear in general biodata templates. Getting these right from the outset saves back-and-forth at the family introduction stage.

Jainism's four principal sects — Digambara, Shwetambara, Sthanakvasi and Terapanthi — each have distinct social networks and, for many families, a preference for intra-sect matches. Some families also note their regional sub-group (Khartar Gachha, Oswal, Porwal, Shrimal, Aggarwal-Jain etc.). Stating sect and sub-community early avoids mismatched expectations after the families have invested time.

Gotra functions similarly in Jain matchmaking as in Hindu practice — it traces patrilineal lineage and most families observe a prohibition on same-gotra marriages. Some Jain families maintain an additional concept of 'kul' (ancestral family group). Include both gotra and kul if your family uses them. Being explicit prevents awkwardness at first meetings and family dinners.

While some Jain families hold that astrology is not part of Jain philosophy, a significant number — particularly in North India and Rajasthan — do consult kundli and do expect nakshatra, rashi, lagna and manglik information to be included. It is safer to include these details; families that do not need them will skip the section, while families that do need them will not have to ask.

Jain biodatas typically give the family background section more space than most other community templates. Parents' and grandparents' names, occupation type (business, profession, service), community standing and major city of residence are all standard. If the family is associated with a specific temple trust or charitable institution, this is often mentioned as a mark of community rootedness.

Noting major religious observances — paryushana, Mahavir Jayanti, Diwali puja style — is common in Jain biodatas, especially when the families are traditionally religious. It is not required, but families looking for a certain level of religiosity appreciate seeing it. Keep this section factual and brief — one or two lines — rather than making it sound performative.

CA, MBA, engineering and medicine are heavily represented in Jain professional profiles given the community's business traditions. Both candidates' qualifications should be stated accurately. For business families, the nature of the business and the candidate's role or expected role are useful additions.
