The State of Kundli Milan 2026

What does the classical 36-gun matching system actually produce? Because ashtakoota is fully deterministic, we didn't sample — we computed every possible match: all 11,664 nakshatra pairings, scored on the Lahiri sidereal engine. This is the complete shape of compatibility, not a survey.

A full census of 11,664 pairings (108 nakshatra-pada Moon positions, matched both ways) · June 2026.

Key findings (free to cite)

  • Most matches pass. 66.4% of all possible pairings clear the classical 18-gun threshold — so a score below 18 is the exception (1 in 3), not the norm.
  • "Perfect" is rare. Only 1.5% of pairings reach the 33+ excellent band; the typical match lands at a mean of 20.2/36.
  • Bhakoot is everywhere. 50% of pairings carry a bhakoot dosha and 33.3% a nadi dosha — which is exactly why classical texts attach so many cancellations to them.
  • Manglik is a coin-flip. By house position, Mars flags a manglik factor in 50% of charts — a structural fact, not a rare curse.
  • Hardest koota: Vashya (clears just 20.8% of its points on average). Easiest: Nadi.

Median score 20.5, most common total 25. The 18/36 line is the classical threshold for a recommended match — but the cancellations matter more than the number.

How often each dosha appears

50%

carry a Bhakoot dosha (2/12, 5/9 or 6/8 rashi spacing). Heavily cancellable in classical practice.

33.3%

carry a Nadi dosha (same nadi). The most weighted koota — and the most documented for cancellations.

44.4%

show a Gana mismatch (deva/manushya/rakshasa). Often softened when other kootas are strong.

50%

flag a Manglik factor by Mars house position; only 8.3% auto-soften from own-sign Mars alone.

Most harmonious nakshatras

  1. Swati avg 21.46/36
  2. Mrigashira avg 21.14/36
  3. Shravana avg 21.04/36
  4. Hasta avg 21/36
  5. Ashwini avg 20.92/36

Most challenging nakshatras

  1. Ashlesha avg 18.42/36
  2. Jyeshtha avg 18.92/36
  3. Mula avg 19.08/36
  4. Magha avg 19.17/36
  5. Krittika avg 19.34/36

A lower average is not a verdict on any one person — it reflects how the classical tables distribute points, and cancellations apply throughout.

Methodology

Every figure is computed with the classical Lahiri sidereal ashtakoota (8-koota, 36-gun) system — the same engine behind our free tool. We evaluated all 27 nakshatras × 4 padas (108 Moon positions), paired in both directions, for an exhaustive 11,664-pairing census. No user or birth data is involved; the dataset is a property of the classical system itself and is fully reproducible.
