Chaldean Numerology: Birth Number, Life Path and Name Number Explained

Chaldean numerology is an ancient system that assigns numerical vibrations to letters based on their sound qualities rather than their position in the alphabet. It originated in Babylon and was adopted across Vedic, Kabbalistic and Arabic esoteric traditions. Unlike the more widely known Pythagorean system, Chaldean uses only values 1–8 for single-letter assignment (9 is considered a sacred number and is not directly assigned to any letter). Letters with identical or near-identical sounds receive the same vibration value regardless of their alphabetical order.

The Pythagorean system assigns values in strict alphabetical sequence: A=1, B=2, C=3... Z=8 (looping). The Chaldean system follows sound-pattern groups: A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E=5, F=8, G=3, H=5, I=1, J=1, K=2, L=3, M=4, N=5, O=7, P=8, Q=1, R=2, S=3, T=4, U=6, V=6, W=6, X=5, Y=1, Z=7. Assign the Chaldean value to each letter of the name as commonly used. Sum all values. In Chaldean practice, the compound number and the single digit are both read — the compound reveals deeper or hidden characteristics, the single digit gives the primary vibration.

Chaldean numerology places particular emphasis on compound numbers. The birth number (also called the psychic number) is derived from the date of birth — specifically the day of the month reduced to a single digit. The destiny number uses the full birth date (day + month + year). The name number (derived from the full used name) ideally harmonises with both. The number 9 is held sacred in Chaldean tradition and is not directly assigned to any letter in the primary value table.
